The surprising tale of captured B-29 Superfortress airmen who have been shot down over Japan in the course of global warfare II hasn't ever been instructed. Brutal eastern Kempei Tai mystery Police have been their captors. stored in overcrowded, filthy dungeon cells in Tokyo, around the moat from the Emperor’s Palace, they have been crushed, tortured, starved, and regularly threatened with demise. They weren't taken care of as Prisoners of warfare yet have been precise as specific Prisoners to be attempted and achieved for the killing of blameless ladies and youngsters. whereas expecting trial they have been thought of subhuman—starved on part POW rations, issued no outfits or simple hygienic wishes, allowed to undergo and die from torture, beatings, wounds, and absence of scientific remedy.

I called my friend who worked in General Richardson's office. The general was in command of all army forces in the Pacific Ocean area. Reverdie came over to John Rogers Field in an army staff car. We had a fine visit. He had been in service about two years and had done quite well for himself as evidenced by his assignment to the general's staff. In the course of our conversation he told me that we were going to be stationed on Tinian Island in the Marianas. The Marianas? Tinian? I had never heard of the Marianas or Tinian Island.
Our final training was received in the special B-24 aircraft. One day during our ground class period, we learned that the B-24 carrying the other half of our class had made a forced landing in a field near Denver. We had flown on this airplane the previous day. The airplane turned over in the rough field and caught fire. The flight crew and student engineers were trapped inside the stricken airplane by jammed hatches which could not be opened. All aboard the airplane perished in the fire. Upon completion of B-29 flight training we had another graduation ceremony.
Our new plane was repaired and signed for. During the late afternoon of New Year's Eve 1944, we took off from Herrington, Kansas, and headed for Mather Army Air Field in California. This was our first flight in the new airplane. We hadn't flown far when we realized that our plane was shaking all over the sky. We tried everything during the flight to get rid of the vibration. We were forced to set down in Albuquerque, New Mexico, during a cold and dark night. This was an overnight stop. We quickly realized that tropical uniforms were not the most comfortable attire for New Mexico in the freezing winter time.
